Egypt Inaugurates the New Suez Canal

New Suez Canal

On Thursday, August 6, Egypt will celebrate the opening of a new 72-kilometre channel parallel to the Suez Canal which will ease the maritime flow  and allow ships, for the first time, to transit the waterway in both directions simultaneously, chopping their journey.

The new water route, which has been dubbed Suez Canal Axis, is now ready for navigation according to Egyptian authorities. It runs along the existing 146-year-old canal connecting the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea.
