His Excellency Mr. Taieb Baccouche, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tunisia has received during an official ceremony Mr Lamourdia Thiombiano, Coordinator of the FAO Sub Regional Office for North Africa. During the discussions and before the presentation of the Letter of Accreditation as FAO Representative to Tunisia, Mr Lamourdia Thiombiano stressed the availability of the FAO to continue contributing and providing the necessary technical assistance to support the country in agricultural development and inclusive growth.

Mr Taieb Baccouche on his part confirmed among other issues, that the new Development Plan of Tunisia provides in the domain of cooperation, a great importance to the development of rural zones and a special attention to the development of agricultural sector as an engine for development in these areas.

On this occasion, Mr. Thiombiano handed over a report on FAO main activities in Tunisia in the field of youth employment in agriculture and rural areas. The Minister welcomed the three new projects that FAO will be implementing in Tunisia on mobility of the youth in rural areas, promotion of agricultural sectors and the reduction of losses and wastes and farms typology.

The Minister encouraged FAO to continue its work in Tunisia through field projects with a beneficial impact for rural populations.
