FAO and WFP discuss innovative collaboration

The United Nations Food and agriculture organization (FAO) hosted at its regional office for the Near East and North Africa, a high level meeting with a delegation from the regional office of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
During the 3 hours’ long meeting, both FAO and WFP discussed ongoing cooperation in different programs in the region, including the many crisis affected spots, and agreed on the need for a collaborative modus operandi at all levels to enhance their response and boost the efficiency of their activities in the region.
Mr. Abdessalam Ould Ahmed, FAO Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa said at the meeting: “building on our long history of cooperation in fighting hunger, we need to seek for innovative ways to collaborate in the future so we can better respond to the urgent need for ensuring food security and nutrition in spite of the crisis and shocks in our region.”
As for Muhannad Hadi WFP’s Regional Director for Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe, he described this meeting as “the start of a promising process that will definitely lead to an enhanced collaboration which will definitely help the communities we serve, while consolidating our resources”.
The meeting was also attended by Carlo Scaramella, WFP Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia and Mr. Pasquale Steduto, FAO Deputy Regional Representative, in addition to many officials from FAO and WFP.
