Cairo 15 February 2017

Mr. Abdessalam Ould Ahmed, the Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) met today in Cairo with the Junior professionals (JPOs) and interns who joined the regional office for the Near East and North Africa, in the presence of Mr. Pasquale Steduto, the Regional Strategic Programme Coordinator and other FAO supervisers and officers.

Coming from Barbados,  China, Italy, Japan, Spain, and the United States, the young professionals shared their passion for exploring FAO’s work in the region, from the ambitious project to save Lake Urmia in the Islamic Republic of Iran to measuring Aid Effectiveness within vulnerable rural communities and streamlining gender in development planning in agriculture.

Mr. Ould Ahmed welcomed the JPOs and encouraged them to put a detailed action plan, so they can benefit from their placement and the unique opportunity of being surrounded by high calibre technical professionals.

As for Mr. Steduto, he briefed them about FAO 3 Regional priorities and invited them to better understand the linkages across these priorities and FAO Strategic Objectives.

FAO’s Junior Professional Programme is a recruitment initiative targeted for talented, highly qualified professionals who are mainly from non- and under- represented developing countries to start a career as an international civil servant with FAO.
