H.E. Salah Mohamed Abdel Moemen, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, will launch the ceremony together with FAO’s Representative in Egypt, Mr. Moujahed Achouri.
Focus and theme of the World Food Day this year is “Agricultural Cooperatives; key to feeding the world”. The theme has been chosen to highlight the contribution of cooperatives to socio-economic development and promote their role, as multi service providers, in improving food security levels and eradicating hunger.
The role of cooperatives, indeed, is crucial particularly in the current context which has clearly shown how grouping and associating small holders can better enable them to leverage market opportunities, improve income and generate employment opportunities.
Following the ceremony, The Minister of Agriculture and Land Recamation, together with the FAO Representative in Egypt will distribute certificates to honor figures from the MALR for their achievements throughout the years in addition to honoring successful cooperatives.
The World Food Day celebration this year will be attended by representatives from the MALR, FAO, and other UN agencies in addition to Agricultural Cooperatives, Civil Society Organizations and other partners.
