FAO along with the Ministry of Agriculture celebrated World Food Day on the 16th of October 2012. Under the slogan of joining forces through Agricultural Cooperatives in order to feed the world, the celebration was held in the Abu Gharib Vegetable Station. This was one of the stations that FAO had rehabilitated and the World Food Day celebration also marked its opening a fully functioning Vegetable Seed Processing Plant.

The celebration was attended by Senior Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Subhi Al Jumaily and MP, Mr. Ebrahim Al Moutllak, who represented the Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq, Dr. Salah Al Mutlak. Many other staff, including the representative of the Agriculture Department at the Prime Minister's Office, was also on hand for the celebration.

Dr. Nazar Al Kobaisy, the assistant to the FAO Representative for Iraq as well as the Director General of SCHF, also gave speeches about the important role of Agricultural Cooperative in reducing world hunger and the importance of it in increasing World Food Security.

Both the opening of the Vegetable Seed Processing Plant and the World Food Day Celebration were broadcasted by TV channels across Iraq and posters and leaflets were also distributed in its honor.
