The session will bring together heads of forestry and rangelands services from the Near East and North Africa to discuss the crucial role forest and rangelands play in the socio-economic development of the region and in the protection of its environment.
In line with the debate currently animated across the region on the importance to move towards a green economy for achieving sustainable development, NEFRC 21 will set the ground for bringing sustainable management of forest and rangelands to the center of the green economy movement; reflect the importance of valorizing the goods and services provided by forest and rangeland ecosystems and the need for restoring the resilience of drylands forest and range landscapes to support the livelihoods of the communities depending on them. Climate change adaptation, sustainable use and development of forest genetic resources, national forestry monitoring, forestry education and research are among the themes that NEFRC will discuss.
Participants will get informed, at the background of the discussions, on the global and regional issues of concern, including the UN debate on the Sustainable Development Goals, the preparation for the 14th World Forestry Congress and the ongoing regional initiatives such as the Great Green Wall Initiative for the African Sahara and the Sahel
The meeting will be held with the support and under the patronage of His Excellency Abdullah Ensour, Prime minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The NEFW seeks to raise awareness on forests and rangelands issues and to foster the participation of relevant stakeholders from NGOs, CBOs, private sector, research, Academics and the media and to provide a forum for experience and knowledge sharing.
