A national catalogue on varieties of Pome and Stone Fruits will be launched on Friday 27 September in the Ministry of Agriculture.

This national catalogue, “The most important varieties of pome and stone fruits grown in Lebanon”, was prepared jointly by Ministry of Agriculture and United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It will be launched by H.E. the Minister of Agriculture Dr. Hussein al-Hajj Hassan and FAO representative Dr. Ali Moumen.

The catalogue represents the first published guide that characterizes cultivated varieties of pome and stone fruits in Lebanon.

It is a practical catalogue that informs farmers, technicians and traders about characteristics and qualities of these varieties, and their period of production.

By promoting a further development of the fruit trees sector in Lebanon, especially pome and stone fruits, the catalogue will represent a valuable reference for the renewal of orchards and a means to improving marketing and trade of these fruits.

This publication has been produced within the ongoing FAO project “Seed and Seedling” that has so far significantly contributed toward the achievement of food security and sustainable agricultural development in Lebanon.

The National catalogue was developed under the guidance and supervision of Mr. Charbel Hubaika (FAO project consultant) and Ms. Mona Siblini (MoA).
