FAO enhances cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture.

2 March 2016, Cairo -- FAO Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa Abdessalam Ould Ahmed received in his office in Cairo, H.E. Soufian Sultan, the Palestinian Minister of Agriculture, accompanied by Mr. Mouhamed Abou Eid, the director of the Palestinian agricultural research center, after their participation at the 33^rd conference of the Arab Center For The Studies Of Arid Zones And Dry Lands.

Ould Ahmed was informed of the latest developments in the agricultural field at the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and discussed potential fields of cooperation between FAO and concerned entities at the ministry and its related research centers, aiming at improving nutrition and achieving food security. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the importance of sustainable management of water resources, and developing irrigation methods to address water scarcity, one of FAO’s strategic regional initiatives in the region.

At the end of the meeting H.E. the Palestinian Minister thanked Mr. Ould Ahmed for “the quality collaboration and valuable support to the ministry and its entities.”
