FAO Regional Representative meets the Minister of Agriculture of Jordan

During his visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Near East and North Africa, Mr. Abdessalam Ould Ahmed, met H.E. Dr. Khaled AlHneifat, Minister for Agriculture of Jordan. The two parties discussed the growing cooperation between FAO and the Government of Jordan.
H.E Khaled AlHneifat expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation between the Hashemite Kingdom and FAO and called for a special attention to marketing of agricultural products in the light of the sudden decline of exports to key regional markets because of the disruption of trade routes as a result of conflicts in neighboring countries.
The two sides emphasized the need for the Ministry of agriculture and FAO to put more efforts in advocating for the crucial social and economic importance of agriculture in Jordan and its critical role in building resilience and stabilization in the country.
They underlined that a balanced, efficient and sustainable agriculture sector is key to achieving the sustainable development agenda and in particular the SDG2.
FAO cooperation with the Hashemite Kingdom covers a wide range of areas, including agriculture water management, information systems, policy formulation and capacity building.
The meeting was attended by Mr. HagElamin Nasredin, FAO Representative in Jordan, and top aides of H.E the minister of agriculture.
