13 November, Rome - A preparatory meeting for next year’s Second International Conference on Nutrition begins today at FAO Headquarters. Presentations and meetings held over the next three days will help set the stage for discussions between high level delegates participating in next year’s event. International experts and guests across all sectors are coming together to share their thoughts and ideas on what nutrition issues need to be in the spotlight. Though progress has been made on nutrition security in the developed and developing world, persistent and wide-reaching issues remain prominent.

Brian Thompson is a Senior Nutrition officer at FAO. In the following interview he elaborates on the challenges facing nutrition security, why progress to improve these issues has been slow, and how this year’s preparatory meeting will influence the Second International Conference on Nutrition in 2014.
