©FAO/Alessandra Benedetti
1 October 2013, Rome - The number of hungry people is slowly coming down, according to the State of Food Insecurity in the World. In this year’s report published by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)and the World Food Programme (WFP), it is projected that while there is progress in the current trend, aggressive efforts need to be made in order to reach Millennium Development Goal #1 – to eradicate hunger.

Piero Conforti is an Economist with FAO. In the following interview he elaborates on what needs to be done, based on evidence from the report and feedback from country case studies.
