Working Together Towards the Biodiversity 2010 Target: support to the FAO cooperation with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and other environmental/Biodiversity-related Conventions and Multilateral Environmental Agreements
BACKGROUND
The "Working Together Towards the Biodiversity 2010 Target" (WTTB2010T) project and Memorandum of Understanding signed between FAO and Ministry for Environment Land and Sea of the Government of Italy calls attention to the importance of fighting biodiversity loss through cooperation and international conventions and covers a two-year project to be implemented jointly by FAO, through the Office of the Assistant Director-General of the Natural Resources Management and Environment Department, and the Ministry for Environment Land and Sea, through the Directorate for Nature Protection. The project aims at strengthening FAO initiatives on biological diversity for food and agriculture towards the achievement of Target 2010 and the Millennium Development Goals Nos. 1 and 7; as well as enhancing the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and other Environmental/Biodiversity-related Conventions and Multilateral Environmental Agreements (e.g. Convention on Migratory Species, Barcelona Convention and the Ramsar Convention on wetlands).
