This section provides information about food-based dietary guidelines and food guides from the Near East.
In 2012, the World Health Organization developed a general guide for WHO Eastern Mediterranean countries with recommendations for an overall pattern of eating to be adopted by the general public in countries of the region. The recommendations are based on the FAO / WHO Technical Consultation on National Food-Based Dietary Guidelines for countries in the Near East held in 2004.
As of 2020, five countries in the Near East region reported having dietary guidelines.
We invite governments to send us their new or revised dietary guidelines and to notify updates on the information pertaining to their countries.
