Tackling haemorrhagic fever diseases: The critical role of veterinary and wildlife services

29/10/2025

Hemorrhagic fevers, including Ebola virus disease (EVD), Marburg virus disease (MVD), and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), Rift Valley fever (RVF), represent critical zoonotic threats with high morbidity, mortality, and socio-economic impacts. These diseases often emerge from wildlife reservoirs or livestock, emphasizing the need for a One Health approach integrating veterinary, wildlife, and human health sectors. Veterinary services play a pivotal role in surveillance, early detection, biosecurity, vaccination and outbreak response, thereby controlling disease risk at the upstream and preventing spillover events and mitigating human health risks.

Objectives

  • Provide an overview of the epidemiology and transmission dynamics of ebola, Marburg, CCHF and other priority hemorrhagic fever diseases.
  • Highlight the role of veterinary services in prevention, detection, and control of hemorrhagic fevers through a One Health approach.
  • Foster knowledge sharing and collaboration among global animal health, public health, and research stakeholders.

This webinar is for veterinary officers, wildlife experts, public health professionals, epidemiologists, researchers, policy makers, and representatives from regional and international organizations involved in zoonotic disease management.
