Webinar: Ecotoxicity of acaricides and environmental risk mitigation in livestock

Virtual Event, 02/04/2025

2 April 2025 | 16:00 - 17.00 CET | ONLINE

The emergence of highly resistant tick populations has led to an unprecedented failure of the available acaricides to protect livestock against ticks, compromising sustainable animal production and food security in the affected regions.

The growing awareness of environmental impact and regulations are reducing the risks that acaricide products can cause to our ecosystems and biodiversity. Despite the existence and tightening of regulations and controls, non-compliance with regulations and instructions as well as intense acaricide use can have negative environmental consequences of water and soil pollution and harmful implications for aquatic and terrestrial organisms including free-living non-target animals.

FAO established the Community of Practice (CoP) on Acaricide Resistance Management of Livestock Ticks to plan multidisciplinary and multisectoral collaboration, expert consultations and knowledge sharing activities to address the challenges and possible pathways for the sustainable management of ticks in livestock, and the slowdown of emergence and spread of acaricide resistant livestock ticks.

This webinar provides an opportunity for CoP members to learn about the potential environmental impacts of acaricide use in livestock, the regulations and ways for environmental risk mitigation.
