World Fish Center

The World Fish Center is a CGIAR Centre that conducts research to improve small-scale fisheries and aquaculture.  Its main areas of focus are policy, economics, and the social sciences, such as connecting the aquaculture sector to poverty reduction initiatives and assessing the potential impacts of climate change on aquaculture; natural resources management, such as assessment of impacts of built structures on aquatic resources; and aquaculture and genetic improvement, for example breeding improved fish strains.

World Vegetable Centre (AVRDC)

AVRDC is a non-governmental, non-profit agricultural research institute based in Taiwan, with regional offices throughout Africa and Asia.  The Centre has 6 hectares under organic production for research.  Research is largely focused on comparative studies of different varieties of pak-choi, sweet corn and rice (for features such as mortality and fresh biomass production) and an effectiveness evaluation of green manure species.  In addition, the Centre has established field boundaries to protect against pesticide drift and a small agroforestry plot for research on intercropping of tropical fruit trees and vegetables.

Worldwatch Institute

The Worldwatch Institute is a research organization that focuses on global environmental issues.  The Institute’s mission is to generate and promote ideas that that will help build an ecologically sustainable society.  Current priority programs are building a low-carbon energy system, creating a healthy future for agriculture, and developing a green economy.  Researchers at the Institute are conducting projects in agriculture and climate – both mitigation and adaptation – as well as some work in biomass as a renewable energy source.

Worm Research Centre

The Worm Research Centre was initially formed to research how to make worms an efficient farming tool and research the potential of worm composting for waste removal.  More recently, the Centre has been focusing on knowledge transfer and information dissemination through seminars, workshops, and practical demonstrations.
