Asociación Cubana de Técnicos Agrícolas y Forestales (ACTAF)

ACTAF is a non-governmental association that works to support the development of sustainable agricultural systems.  The Association offers education and extension services, as well as assists the agricultural community by forming farmer groups and encouraging networking.  The Association also publishes the tri-annual publication “Organic Agriculture” and organizes an international organic agriculture conference every other year.  The website is only available in Spanish.

Centro Regional de Estudios de Alternative Rurales (CREAR)

CREAR maintains a working farm with programs in education, training, and on-farm research in organic and sustainable agriculture.  The centre is divided into several focal areas including intensive horticulture, field crops, animal husbandry, soil conservation, agroforestry, and compost production.

Coastal Agricultural Landscapes Centre (CALC)

This Centre is a joint collaboration between the New South Wales Department of Primary Industries and Southern Cross University.  It conducts research on integrating agriculture with improved management of natural resources in coastal catchments with growing urban development.  Its current research focuses on managing acid sulphate soils, managing effluents for irrigation, and environmental contaminations from agricultural chemicals.

Coastal Plains Soil, Water, and Plant Research Center

The Center is a national research body of the USDA.  Its mission is to anticipate, identify, and solve natural resource problems in agriculture that are important to the United States in general and the Coastal Plains in particular.  It has research projects in crop production, food safety, manure and by-product utilization, plant genetic resources, soil resource management, and water availability and management.

Coastal Rural and Urban Poor Development Association (CRUPDA)

CRUPDA’s mission is to build capacity of the people in order to be self-sufficient and self-initiators.  It implements different projects in order to create opportunities for the poor in Barguna and raise awareness of environmental pollution.  Among other projects, it conducts training in fisheries development and management, livestock development, vegetable cultivation, regenerative agriculture development, and gardening training with a focus on nutrition.

College of Agriculture, University of the Phillipines Los Baños

The College of Agriculture conducts more than half of the country’s total agricultural research and manages several extension programs.  The Institute of Plant Breeding, located within the College of Agriculture, is currently researching breeding and selection for organic vegetables in the Pacific.

Faculty of Science and Agriculture, University of the West Indies

The Faculty of Science & Agriculture has departments dedicated to Animal Science, Food Production, and Agricultural Economics and Extension.  It also has a Cocoa Research Unit established to educate the international community about cocoa, its purposes, and the importance of preserving the cacao gene pool.  Specific areas of research include conservation, characterisation, evaluation, and utilisation of cacao.  The National Herbarium of Trindad and Tobago, also a research entity within the Faculty, aims to collect, preserve, understand and document the flora of Trinidad and Tobago.

JAD is a private organization that brings together the majority of the agribusinesses and producer associations in the Dominican Republic.  The Group aims to support, promote and defend the agricultural sector by means of extension, education, and services that promote technological innovation.  Among their many activities, JAD supports organic agriculture.  The webiste is only available in Spanish.

School of Agriculture and Food Technology (SAFT), University of the South Pacific

The School of Agriculture and Food Technology has four main disciplines: agricultural economics, extension, and education; animal science; crop science; and soil science and agricultural engineering.  Some of its current research activities include socio-economics of crop and livestock production, farmer participation in agricultural production, use of locally available feedstuff in livestock production, management of crop diseases; and minimizing soil erosion while maintaining a profitable crop production.
