Agri Punjab is the State Department concerned with agricultural research and extension.  The Department’s Ayub Agricultural Research Institute is the primary research centre.  Research directorates at the Institute cover the following areas: agronomy, plant protection, horticulture, post harvest, cotton, oil seeds, pulses, sugarcane, vegetables, wheat, arid areas, maize and millets, rice, fodder, and soil science.  A special campaign was started to research methods of increasing crop production within a period of two years.      

The agricultural Division is part of the National Research Centre, which is characterized by multi-disciplinary research teams, where problems can be resolved by the combined efforts of specialists from different agricultural fields to find the best solutions. The agricultural Division has many various groups of experts and specialists in all branches of agricultural sciences. Adoption of organic farming as a vital system for producing healthy food is one of the objectives of the Agricultural Division.

ART is a federal research centre of the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture focusing on plant production and animal husbandry systems.  Research at the Station combines ecology, economics and agricultural engineering to support an agricultural system that is non-industrial in nature.  Studies on organic agriculture are focused on looking for solutions to technical problems in organic production in arable crops, in grassland systems and in management of organic manure, farm and ground fertilizers in order to maintain soil fertility and produce high yields.  In partnership with FiBL, ART maintains a long-term trial on organic and biodynamic versus conventional farming known as the DOK project.

CSANR is actively supporting the expansion of organic agriculture through teaching, research and outreach.  Current research priorities in organic agriculture include nutrient and soil management, the integration of livestock and cropping systems, pest management, seed production, food quality and economics.  

The CAR is a multi-commodity research centre with focused research to provide solutions to agricultural problems. The centre’s research is geared towards sustainable agricultural systems and environmental conservation. The Centre for Agricultural Research currently has seven Research Thrusts (including Organic Agricultural Systems) with potentials for future expansion.

SLU has a mission to take responsibility for the development of biological resources and production in fields such as agriculture, forestry, and food.  The focus of the Agricultural Research for Northern Sweden Station is increasing the knowledge of different crops and harvesting techniques, and maximizing the utilization of animal feeds.  NJV also maintains a farm in Öjebyn that compares conventional versus organic dairy systems.

The Agronomy and Crop Science section within the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has been researching crop productivity and soil fertility in different cropping systems including organic, low-input, and conventional.  These studies emphasize the use of long-term experiments to optimize the systems.

The Department of Ecological and Sustainable Production Systems belongs to the Faculty of Horticultural Science of the CORVINUS University of Budapest. The main principal of Department of Ecological and Sustainable Production Systems is education. Ecological Farming is the topic of high priority in our Department, which shows the whole scale of agriculture to horticultural engineers. Besides education research work is also important in the field of Ecological Farming. The Department issues MSc and PhD topics in ecological farming for four years.

The School of Agriculture consists of seven Departments: Animal Production; Agricultural Economics; Hydraulics, Soil Science and Agricultural Engineering; Food Science and Technology; Field Crops and Ecology; Horticulture and Viticulture; Plant Protection. Alternative farming practices and organic farming are two themes among the different research activities of the School of Agriculture.

The department mandate is to carry out multidisciplinary research, training and extension aimed at creation and dissemination of scientific knowledge of organic agriculture based on principles of ecology, health, fairness and care; evolving organic management strategies for major insect-pests, diseases & nematodes of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, potato, etc.; standardization of organic fertilization for various crops of the region for yield maximization; training of human resource for expansion of organic farming in the state; advisory services on organic farming to officials, farmers and entrepreneurs.
