National Centre of Organic Farming (NCOF), Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture

Emphasising the need for development of sustainable agriculture by promoting the concept of IPNS (Integrated Plant Nutrient System), the Department of Agriculture & Co-operation, has launched the "national project on development and use of biofertiliser", in 1983. Under this project national centre of organic farming has been established at Ghaziabad while six other regional centre have also been set up at different locations of the country to promote biofertiliser as essential component of the Integrated Nutrient Management (INM).

National Forestry Resources Research Institute (NAFORRI)

The mandate of NAFORRI covers all aspects of natural and plantation forest management and conservation, utilization of forest products, agroforestry, forest genetic resources and other forest-related fields in Uganda.  The aim of the Institute is to generate appropriate technologies for increasing the productivity and supply of forest products on a sustainable basis.  The two main research areas in agroforestry surround the use of trees and shrubs to conserve soils in hilly areas and the integration of trees into farming systems to produce wood, food and fodder.  The Institute does not currently do research on organic forestry, but they do aim to build the evidence base around principles of sustained yield in forests and the conservation of biodiversity.
