The provincial cabinet of Balochistan has approved the Fisheries & Aquaculture Policy 2025-2035, the first of its kind in Pakistan, paving the way for sustainable fisheries, blue economy growth, and alternative livelihoods.
Developed with FAO's technical support and IFAD's financial assistance under the Gwadar Lasbela Livelihood Support Programme-II (GLLSP-II), this policy was shaped through an inclusive and participatory process.
The policy marks a significant milestone by declaring fisheries and aquaculture as an industry, banning trawling and harmful fishing gear, and establishing the Balochistan Fisheries & Aquaculture Council.
This policy promotes sustainable fisheries, aquaculture development, and alternative livelihoods while ensuring responsible resource management. A game-changer for Balochistan’s blue economy!
