Name of the institution: American University of Beirut
Description: In 2019 FAO and the American University of Beirut, through its Environmental and Sustainable Development Unit, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, with the aim of strengthening capacity development for sustainable management of natural resources and addressing climate change in Lebanon and in the NENA region. The agreement foresees technical collaboration on thematic areas of mutual interest, including soils, land, water and rural development, with the goal of improving sustainable food production, rural and agricultural development, and contributing to the achievement of the SDGs.
The partnership also contributes to the UN Decade on Family Farming, including communication initiatives on rural development, strengthening food security nutrition, and local food production systems with a particular focus on urban food systems and rural-urban interface.

Description: In January 2016, FAO and Ankara University formalized their collaboration through the signature of a “Memorandum of Understanding”.
Since then, the partnership is developing activities aiming at enhancing Turkish awareness on topics related to food security and safety, the management of natural resources and rural development.
Further areas of collaboration focus on topics such as social protection and employability in the Turkish agricultural sector. Particular attention was given to the conditions and needs of Syrian refugees, seasonal workers, and rural households.
In the field of communication, Ankara University is providing support to FAO’s Turkish local office for the development of communication skills.

To achieve this objective, the partners engage in joint technical cooperation, training events, information exchange, and promote effective policy development and implementation.

Description: In May 2022, FAO and Bahçeşehir University formalized their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. This partnership aims to foster advancements in sustainable food systems, technological innovation, and smart agriculture. The key areas of collaboration include the establishment of a "Learning, Research and Application Platform", technical cooperation on digital transformation and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in food systems, and gender equality and the empowerment of rural women. Activities under this platform encompass capacity development, knowledge exchange, research, innovation, and data sharing, with a focus on promoting sustainable practices in Turkey. The collaboration also involves Advocacy and communication initiatives are expected to play a crucial role in raising awareness and promoting ownership of good policies and practices aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global events.
