Launched in 2013, the Africa Solidarity Trust Fund (ASTF) is a unique financing mechanism that pools resources from African countries to support critical national and regional initiatives on food and agriculture. It is one of the most successful stories of Africa’s partnership with FAO. Its main goal is to assist countries to eradicate hunger and malnutrition, eliminate rural poverty and manage natural resources in a sustainable manner. The ASTF enables an effective synchrony between the priority challenges currently faced by African agriculture and food systems, and the development solutions deployed to address them. So far, it has supported 18 projects in 41 sub-Saharan countries. The new phase of the ASTF seeks to expand its reach in terms of both volume of resources and scale of impact through an expanded partnership.
