FAO + European Union. Investing in a sustainable and food secure future

The European Union is FAO’s top contributor, with EUR 553 million invested between 2018 and 2020 providing assistance to the most vulnerable.

Together we are saving lives and livelihoods across more than 250 projects in… Africa (EUR 179 M); Asia and the Pacific (EUR 73 M); Near East and North Africa (EUR 71 M); Latin America and the Caribbean (EUR 41 M); Europe and Central Asia (EUR 15 M); and interregionally (EUR 174 M).

Thanks to the FAO + EU partnership, we are working to…

  1. Tackle food crises and enhance resilience by investing in information and analysis, anticipatory action and rapid response, and preventing the spread of transboundary pests and diseases.
  2. Combat climate change and improve resource management in the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sectors by limiting their environmental footprint and helping rural populations adapt to a changing climate.
  3. Boost agricultural investment and value chain development by linking rural producers to markets, developing capacities to work with the private sector and giving smallholders access to sustainable value chains.
  4. Promote better nutrition and sustainable food systems by preserving biodiversity, fostering agricultural innovation, and ensuring agricultural development is inclusive and gender sensitive
  5. Leverage partnerships to end poverty, hunger and malnutrition The EU’s unwavering support remains vital to sustain and step-up efforts for the fight against hunger, in times of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Thank you, EU, for being our leading partner and helping us to make sure that no one is left behind. Only together can we achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
