FAO launches new COAG brochure to commemorate FAO’s 80th anniversary

A renewed look at five decades of guidance to global agrifood systems transformation

29/12/2025

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has released a new brochure on the Committee on Agriculture (COAG) to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Organization. The publication highlights the vital role that COAG, as a Technical Committee forming an integral part of the FAO Governing Bodies, has played in guiding the international agenda on issues relating to agriculture, livestock, food security, food safety, nutrition, rural development and natural resource management for more than five decades.

The brochure underscores COAG’s contribution to the FAO Strategic Framework 2022–31, which aims to transform agrifood systems to be MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable. It illustrates how COAG contributes to the four betters: better production, better nutrition, abetter environment and abetter life, leaving no one behind.

Through a review of key milestones, themes and achievements, the publication shows how COAG’s legacy continues to anchor its forward-looking agenda. As countries face the convergence of multiple, mutually reinforcing challenges, including natural disasters, biodiversity loss, economic volatility, and persistent hunger and poverty, the role of COAG has never been more crucial. The brochure outlines how future COAG deliberations will continue to be aligned with Members’ contexts, needs and priorities, promoting innovation and technologies, strengthening the nexus between science, policy and practice.

Looking ahead, COAG reaffirms its commitment to advancing governance and action that accelerate the transformation of agrifood systems, supporting small-scale producers and the empowerment of women and youth, in line with the shared vision of delivering better foods for a better future, leaving no one behind.
