BSF Project - First Cycle

The Governing Body of the International Treaty opened the first call for proposals under the Benefit-sharing Fund in December 2008. Eleven small scale projects (5 from Latin America and the Caribbean, 4 from Africa, 1 from Asia and 1 from Near East) were approved to be funded through the Fund. The decision was taken by the Bureau of the Third Session of the Governing Body of the Treaty which met in Tunis on 31 May 2009 to appraise the eligible project proposals, on the basis of recommendations made by a Panel of Experts. The projects duration is of two years, starting from November 2009 until October 2011.

Some of the funded projects address global challenges such as climate change adaptation, food security and agrobiodiversity conservation. The map below contains links to general information regarding the approved projects.
