Following the request of the 26th Session of the Committee on Agriculture (COAG), FAO has developed the Voluntary Code of Conduct for Food Loss and Waste Reduction (CoC). The document was submitted to the FAO Conference for consideration and endorsement, and approved on 15 June 2021.

第五个国际粮食损失和浪费问题宣传日纪念活动将强调需要加大融资力度，助力减少粮食损失和浪费、促进实现气候目标、推进落实《2030年可持续发展 议程》。
全球粮食产量足以养活世界上的每个人，然而仍有亿万民众深陷饥饿和营养不良状况。粮食损失和浪费减少了可供消费的食物数量，加剧了这一问题，从而导致粮食不安全。许多营养最丰富的食物，如新鲜农产品、水产品和动物产品，极易变质，导致损失水平较高。
粮食损失和浪费造成巨大的经济损失，不仅影响生产者，还影响消费者和国家，更不用说生计和经济稳定了。此外，被送往垃圾填埋场处理的食物占农业粮食体系温室气体排放量的8-10%，影响气候变化和环境可持续性。
