Technical Platform on the Measurement and Reduction of Food Loss and Waste

Knowledge sharing, learning and technical exchange on food loss and waste reduction webinar focus on the Caribbean region

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) hosted an online knowledge-sharing webinar to promote awareness of tools and methodologies in the framework of the Technical Platform on the Measurement and Reduction of Food Loss and Waste (TPFLW). The webinar provided an overview of the new and improved TPFLW. There were numerous participants from the Caribbean Region, including the Bahamas (7%), Barbados (9%), Chile (5%), Guyana (12%), Jamaica (5%), Saint Kitts (3%), Trinidad and Tobago (9%), as well as Colombia, Italy, Mexico, the United States of America and others.

Most participants were from research institutes (27%). Other areas represented were governmental institutions (20%), United Nations agencies (14%), universities (11%) and the private sector (11%).

Polls were employed to ensure dynamic participation and to assess regional issues related to food loss and waste in the area. In addition, instant feedback was agreed to and collected on the relevance of the technical resources and tools offered by the TPFLW website.

Two further webinars will be organized in 2023, which will be tailored to the Near East, North Africa and South America.
