Technical Platform on the Measurement and Reduction of Food Loss and Waste

Awareness-raising in schools to reduce and prevent food waste


This is part of an educational package designed to engage and educate young people and to heighten their awareness of food so as to reduce waste. The goal is to raise awareness among school children, teachers, staff and their families and networks about issues of food loss and waste to encourage the introduction of good practices that are conducive to the reduction of food waste over the  long term.

The set of teaching guides is available in various languages:

Age group 5 to 7 years old

This “education package” named “Do Good: Save Food!” is comprised of different modules that teachers can use in class to plan lessons and activities around the issue. The content is adaptable and designed so that it can be used interactively to enable teachers and educators to select and implement components they consider to be most pertinent to their case depending on their needs, the time available and the, knowledge and age of the students, curriculum, etc.

This package is expected to contribute to significantly reducing food waste in schools and households (both plate and kitchen waste) and related negative socio-economic and environmental impacts.
