FAO Conference

The FAO Conference is the sovereign Governing Body of the Organization. Its purpose is to determine the policy and approve the budget of the Organization and to exercise the other powers conferred upon it by the Constitution, to make recommendations to Member Nations and Associate Members concerning issues related to food and agriculture, in order for them to be reviewed and implemented through national action; to make recommendations to any international organization regarding any matter pertaining to the purposes of the Organization. 

The Conference comprises all Members and Associate Members. The Conference meets one in two years, and approves the Organization’s mid-term plan, the programme of work and the budget. The Conference elects the members of the Organization’s Council, and the Independent Chairperson of the Council. The Director General is elected, for a term of four years, in every alternate Conference.
