Strengthening coherence between social protection and agricultural interventions - The case of Mali

This country report integrates methods, analysis and findings of two studies that explore the impact of a package of short-term humanitarian and recovery interventions in response to food crisis affecting poor and vulnerable livelihoods in Mali. The design of the studies, data collection and research were funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development through the Universidad de los Andes for the project: “Improving the articulation between social protection interventions and rural productive development in developing countries: lessons from Latin America and Africa" and the FAO Regular Programme funds.

Consumer organizations represent the interests and concerns of consumers. They empower and increase consumers’ understanding of their rights, including the right to adequate food. Consumers can influence the sustainable transformation of our agri-food systems by: supporting fair trade to foster equality and stronger economies, demanding food safey and access to healthy and nutritious diets; adopting healthy and nutritious diets; supporting the sustainable use and preservation of our natural resources. Africa is not on track to meet the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 targets to end hunger and ensure access by all people to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food all year round and to end all forms of malnutrition. In recent years, several major drivers have put the world off track to ending world hunger and malnutrition in all its forms by 2030. Vision and Strategy for FAO's Work in Nutrition

This strategy proposes that FAO’s vision for nutrition is a world where all people are eating healthy diets from sustainable, inclusive and resilient agri-food systems. The mission is to tackle malnutrition in all its forms by accelerating impactful policies and actions across agri-food systems to enable healthy diets for all. Through this mission, and in the realization of the aspiration of Better Nutrition, FAOwill contribute to the achievement of targets across the SDGs including SDG 1, SDG 2, SDG 3, SDG10, SDG12, SDG 14, and SDG 17.

Nutrition Capacity Development web section

FAO is actively supporting regional and country capacities to shape food systems that enable healthy diets. Developing appropriate food systems policies and actions entails improving governments' and non-State actors' capacities for carrying out the necessary actions. To achieve this goal, FAO has developed a Capacity Development Roadmap in support of the revised Vision and Strategy for FAO's Work in Nutrition (FAO's Nutrition Strategy). The Roadmap will steer the capacity development activities by addressing current gaps and leveraging opportunities.
