Citrus Fruit Fresh and Processed Statistical Bulletin 2020

This report is issued on an annual basis to Members and Observers of the Intergovernmental Group on Citrus Fruit.It is prepared by the Market and Policy Analysis of Raw Materials, Horticulture and Tropical (RAMHOT) Products Team, Markets and Trade Division, FAO, Rome, and the tables contained in this document bring together governments' replies to the Group’s latest questionnaires, supplemented by other data available.

Consumers can make a difference towards more sustainable agri-food ystems

Consumer organizations represent the interests and concerns of consumers. They empower and increase consumers’ understanding of their rights, including the right to adequate food. Consumers can influence the sustainable transformation of our agri-food systems by: supporting fair trade to foster equality and stronger economies, demanding food safey and access to healthy and nutritious diets; adopting healthy and nutritious diets; supporting the sustainable use and preservation of our natural resources. Consumers have a key role in changing our agri-food systems to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Also available in Spanish.

Official statistical systems are facing difficulties posed by reduced budgets, cultural changes and new competitors on the market, which create data gaps as a consequence. Such gaps are widened by emergency contexts, when having access to timely information is very important. The FAO Statistics Division (ESS) is adapting to this crisis of the traditional data collection systems by modernizing the statistical business process through the activities of the Data Lab for Statistical Innovation. Applying blockchain for climate action in agriculture: state of play and outlook

The objective of this study is to provide insights into potentialities, steps, and best practices in applying blockchain technology (BCT) to use cases in agriculture in the context of climate change, to explore the opportunities and challenges in applying the BCT in agricultural sectors with the aims of reducing greenhouse gas emission, increasing carbon sequestration, as well as supporting farmers’ adaptation to climate change. Furthermore, this study also aims to shed light on policy options and propose policy guidance adapted to developing countries on blockchain applications.

The nutrition and health potential of geographical indication foods

Traditional foods, diets and food systems play an important role in people’s nutritional status. As the best products of traditional food systems, geographical indication (GI) foods have a great potential to contribute to healthy diets and curb non-communicable diseases.This paper presents five case studies around the world on the nutritional potential of registered GI foods and explores the link between the production processes and the nutritional composition of the final products.
