Supporting the implementation of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries regional strategy for food security and nutrition towards the establishment of a hunger-free CPLP: TCP/INT/3406 and TCP/INT/3601
MOVING TOWARDS HUNGER-FREE PORTUGUESE-SPEAKING COUNTRIES
The project worked towards strengthening national capacities to eradicate hunger and malnutrition in the nations making up the Community of Portuguese Language Countries. It brought together leading civil society organizations, the private sector, academic institutions and parliamentarians from the countries involved, as well as fostering cooperation between member states to advance the national implementation of the strategy.
The benefits were to be felt deep within communities, as with school feeding programmesin Cabo Verde and São Tomé e Príncipe and family farming in Timor-Leste and Angola.

Ending Hunger and Malnutrition. FAO collaboration with parliamentarians on food and nutrition security
Eradicating hunger and malnutrition is at the center of FAO’s efforts. In order to achieve this, all stakeholders must be involved. This includes Parliamentarians and non-State actors such as Civil Society and the Private Sector.
Evidence has shown that the improvement in food and nutrition security is principally due to policies, programs and frameworks that are anchored in legislation. Parliamentarians are fundamental custodians of political commitments on food security and nutrition; therefore critical partners in achieving food and nutrition security.

Nutrition and food systems
Malnutrition affects all countries and one in three people. 800 million people are under nourished and 2 billion are affected by micro nutrient deficiencies. Boitshepo Giyose, Senior Nutrition Officer of the FAO Nutrition and Food Systems Division, explains the importance of nutrition and how it should be main streamed across all sectorial policies. She describes the FAO policy work, including key policy messages, to achieve this.

世界粮食不安全状况 2015 实现2015年饥饿相关国际目标:进展不一
今年的《世界粮食不安全状况》报告旨在回顾在实现与饥饿相关的千年发展目标1和世界粮食首脑会议相关国际目标方面取得的进展,并思考在我们朝着新的“2015年后可持续发展议程”过渡的过程中应该采取哪些行动。报告将回顾各国、各区域以及全球层面1990年以来取得的进展。评估在实现千年发展目标1上的相关进展时,不仅要衡量食物不足或饥饿相关数据,还要衡量另一项指标,即五岁以下儿童体重不足发生率。报告对不同区域、不同时期在两项指标上取得的进展进行比较,以揭示粮食安全问题的复杂性。虽然整体已取得进展,但要消除饥饿和全方位实现粮食安全,摆在面前的工作依然很多。《2015年世界粮食不安全状况》报告不仅要对业已取得的进展进行估算,还要发现有待解决的问题,并就未来应侧重哪些政策提出指导意见,同时还指出迄今为止在成功实现粮食安全与营养相关目标过程中发挥决定性作用的关键因素有哪些。列出的一系列因素包括经济增长、农业生产率增长、市场(包括国际贸易)和社会保护,当然除此之外还有其他因素。本报告还表明,由冲突或自然灾害引发的持续危机已成为各方在减轻饥饿方面取得进展的障碍。

Guatemala. Socio-economic context and role of agriculture. Country fact sheet on food and agriculture policy trends.
Attempts have been made to institutionalize government programmes in favour of long-term and comprehensive strategies: notably, the introduction and reinforcement of conditional cash transfer programmes and free food distribution systems. Input distributions continue to be the main policy instrument to support farmers.

Second International Conference on Nutrition. Rome Declaration on Nutrition
The second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) endorsed a political outcome document, the Rome Declaration on Nutrition. The Declaration commits countries to eradicate hunger and prevent all forms of malnutrition worldwide – particularly undernutrition in children, anaemia in women and children, among other micronutrient deficiencies – as well as reverse the trend in obesity. It aims to do this by increasing investments in food systems to improve people’s diets and nutrition.

The State of Food and Agriculture 2013. Food System for Better Nutrition
Malnutrition in all its forms - undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and overweight and obesity - imposes unacceptably high economic and social costs on countries at all income levels. "The State of Food and Agriculture 2013: Food systems for better nutrition" argues that improving nutrition and reducing these costs must begin with food and agriculture.
The traditional role of agriculture in producing food and generating income is fundamental, but agriculture and the entire food system - from inputs and production, through processing, storage, transport and retailing, to consumption - can contribute much more to the eradication of malnutrition.
