FAO gap assessment workshop with Saint Kitts and Nevis
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is currently assisting Saint Kitts and Nevis to analyse ‘gaps’ in national fisheries legal, institutional, and monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) frameworks, compared with measures established in international fisheries binding and non-binding instruments.
Together with a multi-agency team from the eastern Caribbean small island developing state (SIDS), several sessions are currently being held online to carry out this gap assessment workshop.
The main output of the workshop will be a strategy and action plan which will then be used to define follow-up work to be carried out in order to address identified gaps.
This activity is carried out under the framework of a Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA) project funded by the Republic of Korea, meant to assist several States in strengthening their capacity to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
