Course held for Fisheries Monitoring Centre officers in Panama

23/05/2022

Twenty fisheries-related officers in Panama attended a training course organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which was held in Panama City, between 16 – 20 May 2022.

Twenty different training modules covering from the Law of the Sea and other international instruments to information management principles, under the training course ‘Capacitation para Operadores de Centros de Seguimento Pesquero’, were presented to operators of the national Fisheries Monitoring Centre together with fisheries inspectors from the Autoridad de los Recursos Aquatics de Panama (ARAP), who later took part in a technical discussion to elaborate the content taught.

The week-long training session forms part of capacity development opportunities offered by FAO for senior technicians and for recently-engaged junior operators working directly in the fisheries sector. The session will serve as a basis for the Panamanian authority for the drafting of its future training manual for operators and for the drafting of its operational procedures.

The training course was funded by the European Union as part of the project GLO/INT/413/EC.
