New functions released in PSMA GIES app
Two new functions have been released in the Global Information Exchange System (GIES), an application developed in support of the 2009 FAO Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA).
Effective from today, the National Contact Point (NCP) and Designated Ports (DPs) information required under the PSMA is accessible directly through the GIES portal, available here. The PSMA application for NCPs and DPs (otherwise known as the “PSMA app”), which has been available since 2018, has now been decommissioned and is no longer available. All data available in the PSMA application has been migrated into the GIES with users now having a single access point, therefore making the GIES even more user friendly.
Information on NCPs and DPs is now made available publicly and accessible from the landing page of the GIES Dashboard. National Contact Points are now able to update their information as required by accessing the restricted area of the GIES, using their credentials.
The new function allows for the specification of available port uses as well as a “No Designated Ports Declaration” for those Parties which have opted not to designate any ports.
Also, effective as of today, the new User Management function is available. This function allows each NCP to create national GIES accounts with different user rights as per national needs.
These new GIES functions are available in all six FAO official languages.
