Accord relatif aux mesures du ressort de l’État du Port (PSMA)

FAO delivers PSMA Gap Analysis in Madagascar and a legal mission in Indonesia

06/12/2018

From 26-30 November 2018, FAO held a participatory workshop which focused on developing a national strategy and action plan for addressing gaps in the effective application of the Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA), in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Participants representing a range of different national agencies, including fisheries, port, police and navy, attended and provided invaluable input into the five-day workshop.

The resulting strategy and action plan will provide the basis for Madagascar to strengthen its national legislation, institutional setup, and monitoring, control and surveillance (MCS) systems and operations consistent with the provisions of the PSMA.

This activity was one of several funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Coordination (Norad) under the auspices of FAO's global capacity development programme to support the implementation of the PSMA.

During the same week, another team of FAO experts visited Indonesia on a mission funded by Norad, to review the national fisheries legislative framework to ascertain alignment with PSMA provisions.
