Officers of the PSMA
The officers of the PSMA (or “PSMA Bureau”) are elected directly by the Parties, at the end of every Meeting of the Parties for the next term. They are elected for the roles of Chairperson, who chairs the next Meeting of the Parties, a First Vice-Chairperson, and up to five Vice-Chairpersons, who will represent different geographical regions. In the intersessional period, the officers of the PSMA meet regularly with the PSMA Secretariat to advance matters relevant to the PSMA such as providing guidance to the PSMA Secretariat with regards to the Working Group meetings and the following Meeting of the Parties.
Their role is regulated by the Rules of Procedure for Meetings of the Parties, which were adopted during the Second Meeting of the Parties, in 2019.
The FAO Secretariat carries out the functions of the PSMA Secretariat supporting, amongst others, the work of the officers.
