A woman in Rural Damascus inspects one of 20 laying hens received as part of a project designed to enable households affected by the crisis to access fresh and nutritious foods. Thanks to the Government of the Swiss Confederation FAO was able to assist 2 000 households with poultry units. Poultry farming is a typically female activity: women are in charge not only of the agricultural activity, but also of marketing the produce and of managing the income generated.
