SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): ranges between 11.3 million and 13.3 million. 75% of the rural population are dependent on livestock for their livelihoods and much of the land is only suitable for livestock grazing, thus small ruminant production provides a significant contribution for food security.
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: PPR is endemic in Afghanistan
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: the country is currently implementing activities that contain elements of both stage 1 and stage 2 of the PPR step-wise approach.
