Peste des petits ruminants

Gabon

SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 9.555 - 40.295 (data from FAOSTAT 2016)
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: First outbreak reported in 1993 after the virus has spreads in different provinces between 2011 and 2015. Since its first outbreak no concrete measures have been taken and PPR is considered endemic in the whole Country. Veterinary legislation is outdated and PPR is not yet considered a notifiable disease therefore reporting an outbreak is not mandatory. For this reason the epidemiological situation is poorly understood with almost no data, no epidemiological research, no prevention and control program.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: National Strategic Plan developed but no PPR vaccinations conducted to date.
