EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: PPR never been reported however epidemiological assessment needed to demonstrate the absence of PPR virus and move towards OIE official PPR-free status.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: A National Strategic Plan for PPR is in action for the biennium 2017/2018
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Livestock mainly raised in backyard production system (small holders).

Zimbabwe

SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 607 571 - 95 014
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: Hasta ahora no se ha confirmado ningún caso de PPR en el país, aunque existen pruebas serológicas de la presencia del virus en la vecina Zambia. El distrito septentrional de Zimbabwe se considera una zona de riesgo alto de PPR.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: No se realiza vacunación.

Cameroon

SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 6.264.763 - 3.196.791
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: PPR was first reported in 1997 and the disease is considered endemic in several provinces.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: National Strategic Plan is in place in accordance with the PPR Global Eradication Programme. Within the framework of implementation of the World Bank-funded project (PRODEL) risk-based PPR vaccinations are taking since 2018.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Livestock accounts for 13 percent of the agriculture GDP and employs 30 percent of the rural population. Livestock systems are very much interlinked in the integrated farming systems in Cameroon.

Central African Republic

SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 5.933.000 - 403.000
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: First PPR outbreak confirmed in March 1991. PPR has spread from year to year in the whole Country.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: Since 2016 annual vaccination campaigns have been implemented but immunization coverage is still considered low. PPR National Strategic Plan has been drafted and validated in 2017 in accordance with the PPR Global Eradication Programme.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 85% is traditional small ruminant house farming. Sheep farming mainly held by Fulani pastoralists (nomadic or semi-nomadic) while goat rearing is mainly held by indigenous people. There is a poor knowledge of modern breeding techniques with market channels very little developed.

Chad

SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 26.500.000 - 30.800.000
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: PPR has been described for the first time in 1973 but only in 1995 the virus has been isolated.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: National Strategic Plan has been elaborated in 2017 in accordance with PPR GCES, the Country is aiming to receive OIE PPR-free status in 2030. First vaccination campaign is scheduled for January 2018. A seroprevalence study carried out in 2017 has highlighted PPR virus presence in 56.7% of sheep and 49% of goats. The results showed a high prevalence of virus in the whole Country.
