SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 6.658.000 - 1.089.000
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: the first outbreak was reported on 26 July 2012 in Cabinda.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: In 2012 targeted surveillance has been conducted to determine whether there were any PPR cases and /or antibodies in the goat and sheep populations in high risk areas. Vaccinations have been done in high-risk areas.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 91.5% of sheep and goat are reared in central-southern provinces; documented livestock movement across official borders with Democratic Rep. of Congo and Zambia.

Kenya
SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 27.740.153 - 17.129.606
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: First outbreak has been registered in 2006 in Oropoi, Turkana district later spread to neighboring districts mainly due to migration of livestock because of drought and illegal trade. Currently the disease is endemic in most of the counties.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: Vaccination campaign is in action. National Strategic Plan draft has been prepared based on PPR GCES and the country has self-assessed itself at Stage 2 while some of activities of stage 1 are remaining behind.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Small ruminant livestock system is mainly based on domestic pastoral/agro-pastoral.

Sierra Leone
SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 1.147.679 - 1.062.639
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: In the last 3 years there have been 31 cases of PPR diseases recorded nationwide.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: Vaccination is implemented by the Livestock and Veterinary Services Division targeting the whole country. In 2013 number of small ruminants vaccinated were 241.691, in 2014 99.930 and in 2015 were 41.202.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Livestock system is free range with animal released in the morning and kept indoor during the night, when in urban areas stall-feeding is the solution. Animal move along the designated trade routes and this requires movement permits and en-route inspection.

Togo
SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 3.401.512 - 2.413.177
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: PPR first reported in 1972 is currently endemic in the country.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: National vaccination campaign running each year since 2012 with low vaccination coverage.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: : Extensive production with grazing animals, pastures provided are not far away from the farms.

Bahrain
SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 17.991 - 39.209
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: No cases of PPR have reported in Bahrain since 2010, except of a suspected outbreak in one farm in 2014, which has been investigated and found negative. 450 sheep and goats were suspected infected, 208 sample collected all negative.
