EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: The First PPR outbreak was reported in 1983. The disease is endemic.

Iraq

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: PPR first recorded in the country in 1997 but the first official report to OIE and FAO was in September 1998 when a major outbreak hit the region in the north. First record of virus isolation was in 2000.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: Compulsory free of charge vaccination campaign for all small ruminants at 3 months old and above.

Jordan
SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 1.2 million - 3.15 million
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: First PPR occurrence was in 1980. Although the last occurrence of the disease was in 2006, sero-surveillance study conducted in 2016 and funded by FAO in cooperation with J.U.S.T shown 49% positivity in sheep and 50% in goat.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: PPR vaccine is currently use in small ruminants every year using locally produced (JOVAC). 1,140,213 sheep and 259,037 goats vaccinated in 2016.

Lebanon
SMALL RUMINANT POPULATION (goat-sheep): 516.014 - 450.805
EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION FIRST/LAST OUTBREAK: PPR is a notifiable disease and its surveillance and control are included in a 5 year strategic plan (2010-2015). Last outbreak was in 1997, no cases of PPR have been reported since then. Early warning and awareness programs have been implemented.
CONTROL ACTIVITIES: PPR vaccination campaign has been running since 2009, yearly.
