    There is increasing awareness of the need for, and a growing movement to apply, the ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF) and develop sustainable linkages between climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk management (DRM). Fisheries learning exchanges (FLEs) can be useful for enhancing fisheries management that is guided by these concepts. In the Caribbean there exists little guidance on FLEs that focus on the concepts of EAF, CCA and DRM. Although best practices exist, guidance for designing and implementing suitable exchange programmes is almost non-existent. This report seeks to fill this gap by providing practical guidance. First, concepts are presented to underpin good FLE practices. Two case studies from the Caribbean are offered as examples of recent FLEs, with lessons learnt from the experiences. Next, guidelines for organising FLEs are outlined, followed by potential challenges and solutions to be considered. Finally, useful resources for additional practical guidance are set out with links for easy access.

    The Regional Knowledge Exchange on the promotion of efficient rice farming practices and value chains in sub-Saharan Africa took place from 7 to 11 August 2017 in Elmina, Ghana. The workshop brought together over 40 participants from ten countries and technical partner institutions involved in the implementation of the regional project “Partnership for Sustainable Rice Systems Development in Sub-Saharan Africa’’ (GCP/RAF/489/VEN). The key objectives of the workshop were primarily (1) to discuss priorities and plans for continued project implementation at country and at regional level, and (2) to facilitate the regional exchange of knowledge and experiences on sustainable rice production intensification and rice value chain. As a result of workshop discussion, a number of proposals were put forward for study tour exchanges to disseminate best practices on rice value chain development. These include exchange on seed systems, irrigation, post-harvest losses and mechanization. Study tours would be coordinated with regional and global research institutions such as Africa Rice and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in collaboration with FAO. It is envisaged that the knowledge exchange will provide a catalyst for the dissemination of best practices in Africa along the rice value chains through the practical adoption of innovative tools and approaches to boost productivity and enhance competitiveness of African rice farmers, processors and traders.

    The "Sustainable Broiler Production in North Macedonia - A Value Chain Guide to Best Practice" is to enhance the development of a sustainable broiler meat industry in North Macedonia so as to deliver a high-quality product that can compete directly with the current high volume of imported product. This Guide is a tool that supports the FAO mission to advance track record of efficiency gains and better environmental stewardship. Broiler growers, integrators, processors, suppliers, foodservice companies, retailers and outside stakeholders realise the importance of working together to collaborate on the shared goals of implementing best practices, tracking progress, and continuing to drive continuous improvement through the creation of the Guide including the best management practices as outlined in this document. The Guide is a tool to support and communicate continuous improvement in sustainability through leadership, innovation, multi-stakeholder engagement and collaboration. It successfully aggregates a list of best management practices that could be utilised on farms, hatcheries and processing operations both today and into the future. It also incorporates the important function of maintaining the highest achievable standards for welfare and food safety. The Guide has been developed by FAO and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Food of the Republic of North Macedonia. It is expected that this publication will serve as a practical guide providing valuable information to both experienced and novice poultry producers alike, as well as for students, researchers.
