Spotlight on fisheries and forestry
19/07/2018
Forestry and fisheries have taken centre stage at FAO this month, with the release of The State of the World’s Forests and The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture in the context of the 33rd Committee on Fisheries meeting (9−13 July) and 24th Committee on Forests (16−20 July).
The 2018 editions of these biennial reports shine a light on the important but sometimes poorly understood contributions of forests and of fisheries and aquaculture in realizing the 2030 Agenda, from tackling climate change to conserving biodiversity, reducing inequalities and providing a living for rural and coastal communities.
These flagship reports are part of FAO’s series The State of The World, which also covers food and agriculture, food security and nutrition, and commodities. The series has been redesigned to ensure a more consistent and recognizable identity across a range of formats, which cater not only to policy-makers, but also experts, academia, the media and the general public.
Other recent releases include a new publication on the Impacts of climate change on fisheries and aquaculture, with contributions from over 90 scientists; and the recently restyled FAO Yearbook of Fisheries and Aquaculture and the FAO Yearbook of Forest Products, now in its 70th year.
