International Translation Day (30 September) is an opportunity to promote multilingualism and discover one of FAO's most translated publications: the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries.

Adopted 27 years ago by the FAO Conference, the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries remains the reference for national and international efforts to ensure sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.

The Code sets out principles and international standards of behaviour for responsible practices with a view to ensuring the effective conservation, management and development of living aquatic resources in harmony with the environment.

Its success can also be measured by the number of languages it has been translated into: 27 to date. Thanks to cooperation with governments, industry and NGOs, the Code is available not only in FAO’s six official languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish), but also in Icelandic, Maltese, Tamil and many more, making it one of the Organization’s most translated publications.
