*NEW DATES: FROM 30 JUNE TO 3 JULY*
The pastoralist movement—led globally by the World Alliance of Mobile Indigenous Pastoralists (WAMIP)—is determined to ensure its voice is heard during the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP) 2026.
In West and Central Africa, pastoralism faces economic, political, and environmental challenges, while also generating innovative alternatives and solutions that deserve wider recognition. This regional gathering, driven by pastoralist leadership, brings together the principal grassroots organizations from across the regions. Its purpose is to prepare for the World Pastoralists’ Assembly in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (August 2026), ensuring that perspectives from West and Central Africa are represented in global policy debates ahead of the UNCCD COP.
Guided by WAMIP’s vision, the event reinforces pastoralism as a sustainable solution, strengthens community empowerment in land governance, and fosters dialogue among pastoralists. It will culminate in a Final Declaration—an essential contribution to international processes.
