Reduce Rural Poverty

Women in agriculture

Women make up 43 percent of the global agricultural labour force, yet they face significant discrimination when it comes to land and livestock ownership, equal pay, participation in decision-making entities and access to credit and financial services. FAO works at two levels to address this discrimination: at government level, FAO helps to ensure that policies promote gender equality; at the individual level, FAO empowers women with entrepreneurial and business planning skills to make them more independent and capable to participate in the local economy.
