28/01/2021 - 28/01/2021

The GIA is an alliance of ocean industry leaders working together with the IMO-FAO GloLitter Partnerships project (GLP), through the UN Global Compact, to support efforts to address the issue of marine plastic litter from sea-based sources, in particular within the shipping and fishing sectors.

The main purpose of the GLP-GIA will be the creation of private sector grouping with cash and in-kind contributions from participating members that can play a leadership role in supporting the reduction or elimination of marine plastic litter from sea-based sources through technical means, and are willing to promote North-South and South-South related technical cooperation activities.

The first informal kick-off meeting will take place online on 28 January 2021.

During this meeting IMO and FAO will present the initiative to potential members. The incentives and benefits for the private sector to engage with the GLP-GIA will be discussed as well as the expected contribution of this industry group to the objectives of the GLP.
